Acne meets Diet and Supplements

Acne meets Diet and Supplements

A recent systematic review of nutritional supplements for acne published in JAMA Dermatology found fair or good quality studies showing that nutritional supplements can be beneficial in patients with acne. These include Vitamin B5 (pantothenic acid), Vitamin D, Omega 3 fatty acids, and Probiotics. In addition to all of these, I often use specific preparation of oral zinc in patients with acne.

We also have evidence that a diet high in healthy fats (omega-rich fish, nuts, olive oil), vegetables, and legumes that limits meats, alcohol, and dairy is beneficial for acne and rosacea.

It’s been my experience that diet and supplements can significantly reduce acne in teens and adults!
